Another way to get to Machu Picchu would be by this alternative trek called Inka Jungle which mixes the adventure with the hike exploring this area where the Incas live before and they also established the second capital there. Join us in this new adventure with Destiny Cusco Adventures and enjoy the cycling, rafting, ziplining and the hike in another inka trail. This tour is a good option in case you don’t have that much time and you want to avoid that much hike.
itinerary
First day: Cusco - Abra Malaga - Santa Teresa We pick you up from your hotel at 6:00 am in the morning and we drive to Ollantaytambo where we stop for breakfast (not included) and then we continue driving till 4330 m.a.s.l. Which is the highest altitude in our tour, seeing the weather up there we are going to start with the biking for 2 hours more less, most of the way is going down and as soon as we get lower altitude this gets warm. We finish the biking in Huamanmarca which is a small archaeological site where we have a small explanation and after that we still drive to Santa Maria, the first village where we have lunch and In the afternoon you will do the second activity which is the white river rafting which takes two hours. A local guide is going to explain to you all the safety information about this fun activity and once we finish with this we go to Santa Teresa village where we will spend our first night at 1600 m.a.s.l in a nice hostel. In the evening we go for dinner and try the local dishes in a local restaurant. Finally we go to sleep because the next day we have to be ready for doing another nice hike.
Second day: Santa Teresa – Hidroeléctrica – Aguas Calientes Today we wake up around 7:00 am, then we will enjoy our breakfast . We know this day is not difficult because we only hike for three hours, which means we have extra time for sleeping. We start first with the zip line activity where you will zip in 5 different cables and one suspension bridge, to get here we drive for 10 minutes to the base camp. Before starting with this activity you will receive a safety information from the local guides that will help to you most of the time, so don’t be scared of doing this because if you are not sure to do it alone you have the option to go with the guide, this activity takes 2 hours more less depending in how many people book for the day. By the afternoon we drive from Santa Teresa to Hidroelectrica for almost one hour where we have our lunch and then start with our hike for three hours only following the train trucks until Aguas Calientes town. On this way we have the chance to see Machupicchu from far away, but with a good camera we can see part of the archeological site, depending on which time we start the hike we could find many birds and the local animals. Around 3 or 4 pm is when we expect to arrive in Aguas Calientes where we spend our last night. Also, in case you are very exhausted after the hike you have the option to take a train (extra cost) and arrive early there and have a bit more for exploring the small town or jumping in the hot springs. Tonight we have our last dinner in a nice restaurant and then go to sleep.
Third day: Aguas Calientes – Machupicchu - Cusco Finally, on our last day we will see Machu Picchu again so we need to wake up early to see the sunrise but that means to start around 05:00 am because we have to queue for taking the bus which is only 25 minutes. Our plan is to get nice views from Machu Picchu because early in the morning is when we can see how this place gets clear little by little and feels the magic environment that surrounds this place. Once we arrive there we will go to get the classical picture from Machu Picchu and then see the most important temples of this huge archeological site. In the afternoon we go back to the town by bus and have another chance to visit the hot springs or the craft market. At the end of the day, you will take the train back from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo where the driver is waiting to bring you back to Cusco and we drop you off at your hotel where the tour ends. This last journey will take 3 hours from Aguas Calientes to Cusco city.
note
After the tour in Machu Picchu you can do extra hiking like Machu Picchu mountain or Huayna Picchu mountain which have an extra cost (US $75 dollars). In case you want to book for Wayna Picchu mountain, let us know in advance because this hike is so popular that only 400 persons can access it per day. Don’t bring too many things for this hike because you have to carry it all the way.
