coffee tour 3d/2n

SHORT INCA TRAIL

Nowadays the coffee from Peru is getting very popular because the production is natural and the taste is so good. So Destiny Cusco Adventures offers to you to explore this area of Cusco called La Convencion which is one of the 13 provinces of Cusco, located in the high jungle where you will be able to see the coffee plantations, chocolate fruit, coca plantations and seasonal fruit, but the main point is that you can make your own coffee.

itinerary

First day: Cusco – Abra Malaga – Huacayupana On our first day we will start a bit early because we have a long journey until our destination for this day. So we pick you up at 06:00 am from your hotel and then start with the driving to Ollantaytambo where we stop for 30 minutes for breakfast which is not included. You know this day we start early so you won’t have enough time for breakfast in your hotel that’s why we stop here and then we continue driving to Santa Rosa village for 3 more hours, in the way we reach a high pass called Abra Malaga, the highest point in our hike (4330 m.a.s.l) then driving down into the high jungle where we see a different landscape and more vegetation. Once we get to Santa Rosa we start with the hike for 1 hour 30 minutes going up to the inca trail and finish in Huacayupana village where Mr Alejandro is waiting with a local lunch basic in a local production of his house. Then we have some time for resting before we start with the coffee tour. Around 03:00 pm we are planning to start with the coffee tour where Mr Alejandro will explain all the information about the coffee production in his land. So you need to know that you will help him to harvest some coffee and then make all the process to get it. For sure we will drink many cups of coffee, as much as you can drink and have some for the next day for breakfast. Once we finish with this activity we have dinner inside Mr Alejandro’s house in order to know how the locals live in this place. This will be a long day so you will sleep like a baby in a homestay that Mr Alejandro offers here in a quiet area.

Second day: Huacayupana – Hidroeléctrica – Aguas Calientes We start at 06:30 am with a nice local breakfast before starting the hike to Aguas Calientes for six hours. On this day we hike first for three hours until Cocalmayo hot springs and the first hour is going down from Huacayupana to Quellomayu village where the path becomes much easier until Cocalmayo hot springs. Remember that we are located in the high jungle here so once we start walking for a few minutes we start to sweat already but we stop in different spots depending on how you are feeling. This hike has some fun activities like crossing the river in a local transportation called la Oroya (cable car) which is very fast and safe and then arriving at the nice hot spring where we can stop as much as we want. The truth is that at the time that we arrive here it would be hot to get into, but we have cold springs as well so depending on which one you jump. After this point we drive to Santa Teresa for 10 minutes and have lunch there, then drive to Hidroeléctrica for 45 more minutes and start there with the second hike till Aguas Calientes for 3 more hours following the railroad from which one we will see already Machu Picchu in the distance. If we are very lucky we can find different animals and flowers in the area, a part of that enjoying the nice landscape surrounded by huge mountains. This hike is not that bad because most of the way is flat and when we get to Aguas Calientes we go first to our Hotel to take a rest and then have dinner in a tourist restaurant. At night you have free time for walking around this town, a small place but very touristic with a craft market where you can do shopping or wait till Cusco where you have more options. Also in this town there are other hot springs that you can visit by yourself and then sleep well.

Third day: Aguas Calientes – Machupicchu - Cusco Finally, on our last day we will see Machu Picchu again so we need to wake up early to see the sunrise but that means to start around 05:00 am because we have to queue for taking the bus which is only 25 minutes. Our plan is to get nice views from Machu Picchu because early in the morning is when we can see how this place gets clear little by little and feels the magic environment that surrounds this place. Once we arrive there we will go to get the classical picture from Machu Picchu and then see the most important temples of this huge archeological site. In the afternoon we go back to the town by bus and have another chance to visit the hot springs or the craft market. At the end of the day, you will take the train back from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo where the driver is waiting to bring you back to Cusco and we drop you off at your hotel where the tour ends. This last journey will take 3 hours from Aguas Calientes to Cusco city.
