itinerary
First day: Cusco – Abra Malaga – Maranura
On our first day we will start a bit early because we have a long journey until our destination for this day. So we pick you up at 06:00 am from your hotel and then start with the driving to Ollantaytambo where we stop for 30 minutes for breakfast which is not included. You know this day we start early so you won’t have enough time for breakfast in your hotel that’s why we stop here and then we continue driving to Maranura (1120 m.s.n.m /3675 ft) village for 3 more hours, in the way we reach a high pass called Abra Malaga, the highest point in our hike (4330 m.a.s.l / 14206 ft.) then driving down into the high jungle where we see a different landscape and more vegetation. Once we get to Maranura Village,we will take a short rest in our accommodation, then have our local lunch and after lunch start with the Chocolate activity where our friend Dorian will explain all details about this production in her land. So you need to know that you will help him to harvest some cacao fruits and then make all the process to get home chocolate. For sure we will drink some cups of hot chocolate, make our chocolate bar and have some for the next day for breakfast. Once we finish with this activity we have free time to rest and explore around Maranura village and then have dinner. This will be a long day so you will sleep like a baby in a homestay that local people offer here in a quiet area.
Second day: Maranura – Hidroeléctrica – Aguas Calientes
We start at 06:30 am with a nice local breakfast before starting the hike to Aguas Calientes for 3 hours. On this day we drive for 2 hours till Hidroelectrica and the rest of the way will be walking along the railroad, remember that we are located in the high jungle here so once we start walking for a few minutes we start to sweat already but we stop in different spots depending on how you are feeling. This short hike has awesome views of Machu Picchu and If we are very lucky we can find different animals and flowers in the area, a part of that enjoying the nice landscape surrounded by huge mountains. This hike is not that bad because most of the way is flat and when we get to Aguas Calientes we go first to our Hotel to take a rest and then have dinner in a tourist restaurant. At night you have free time for walking around this town, a small place but very touristic with a craft market where you can do shopping or wait till Cusco where you have more options. Also in this town there are other hot springs that you can visit by yourself and then sleep well.
Third day: Aguas Calientes – Machupicchu - Cusco
Finally, on our last day we will see Machu Picchu again so we need to wake up early to see the sunrise but that means to start around 05:00 am because we have to queue for taking the bus which is only 25 minutes. Our plan is to get nice views from Machu Picchu because early in the morning is when we can see how this place gets clear little by little and feels the magic environment that surrounds this place. Once we arrive there we will go to get the classical picture from Machu Picchu and then see the most important temples of this huge archeological site. In the afternoon we go back to the town by bus and have another chance to visit the hot springs or the craft market. At the end of the day, you will take the train back from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo where the driver is waiting to bring you back to Cusco and we drop you off at your hotel where the tour ends. This last journey will take 3 hours from Aguas Calientes to Cusco city.
note:
After the tour in Machu Picchu you can do extra hiking like Machu Picchu mountain or Huayna Picchu mountain which have an extra cost (US $75 dollars). In case you want to book for Wayna Picchu mountain, let us know in advance because this hike is so popular that only 400 persons can access it per day. Don’t bring too many things for this hike because you have to carry it all the way.
